Clinton's Tavern

I just wanted to take a quick moment to thank everyone who came out to the show the other night at Clinton’s Tavern. We’ve never had that many people dancing at a show and it warmed our hearts. Not only were all of you lovely dancers awesome but the bands were great too, all of them, and a huge thank you to Distant Cousins for setting everything up. Also I can’t forget to mention how sick the music Brad Weber was playing was, definitely never been that pumped up before a show, thanks Brad! I posted a few pictures from the night (previous post) but for some reason Tumblr has some issues with the other photos I planned on posting so hopefully these technical difficulties will end soon and all of you who couldn’t make it will get to see what you missed! If you couldn’t make this show don’t fret we have a few more shows lined up, the next one being February 4th with Kidstreet and Young Empires (all ages) at the Casbah. Check back here after the weekend for more photos and recording updates!

Swimming

Someone’s fallen back but I can’t stop moving
Running away from a clever boy’s ruses
Wine is flowing freely and so is my tongue
So I climb up your ladder rung by rung
All your friends say that you look much better
But they only say it cause you’re now fettered
Want to write a poem for a symphony
Or I thought that I did til he said to me

You can’t even understand what I do for you
I toil, sweat, and break my back in the sand
To keep you swimming

Think she hit a nerve cause I can’t stop shaking
Running away from the music we’re making
All of it’s deeper than I ever desired
So I nod and I wave and I say I’m tired

Shut down my mind to make it move
At Threshold where I was reduced
Built up until they had me whole
And mother that’s why I could never be more

Taken from the top and I can’t stop grinning
Running away from the record that’s spinning
Something should be said but we’ve precious time
So I - nevermind

Shut down my mind to make it move
At Threshold where I was reduced
Built up until they had me whole
And mother that’s why I will never be more
Was promised things that could not be
I took a plane overseas
Changed, I knew something had to give
But that’s not the reason that’s just part of it

Recording...

Is awesome.  On Friday, January 20th we had our first session in Mike Keire’s studio to begin work on our debut album. Not only have we come out of it loving how far we’ve got but the downtime in the studio is great too. The actual recording process is more tedious and particular then before as we are now recording to tape. Calendar Girls and Swimming were the two songs we decided to track first and we can’t wait to show you guys. We’ll keep you updated with posts about recording throughout the duration of our time in the studio. Now, to wet your appetite enjoy a brief clip of Spence doing his vocals for swimming (previous post).

And that’s the way the cookie crumbles,

Needless to say, we are excited.

So, our first studio session for the full length is fast approaching and I don’t think we’ve ever been more excited in our lives. We keep ranting about it every time we see each other, especially now as we sit in our living room, Ben and I are lounging around with our laptops while Gordy plays Skyrim. Ben just keeps showing us and bringing up new ideas for the album and the most exciting part is none of them are out of our reach, with a full year to work on this project and the ideas already within our grasp our excitement is growing exponentially. Not only that but hanging in Threshold Recording Studio is probably the funnest past time on the planet; throw on a movie, watch your friends do their parts, eat really unhealthy food from Giant Tiger and drink beer. What more could we ask for? Well we could ask for Mike to get a tape machine and some other fancy new stuff… OH WAIT, HE ALREADY DID! Yeah, new equipment, beer, candy, Mattina’s and the actual act of recording? Definitely couldn’t ask for a better way to spend the year.

Don’t eat the crab dip,

Calendar Girls

She stands there still as she can
Stapled and crisp, fine as a gem
But you should say what you came here to say
Otherwise you’ve wasted your heels

Well I know it was you that called me
The other night drunk and I won’t say I disliked it
And I know it was you that followed me home
To make sure that I got in alright

He stands there still as he can
But he’s not still, too many shakes
And when his stares finally meet her eyes
There’s something there: is it pity?

Well I know it was you that called me
The other night drunk and kept apologizing
And I know it was you that followed me home
But why?

Have done with it
I don’t want to go through this
He just wants to get offered
She wouldn’t give him her initials
Legs and lips
No you don’t even belong here
No you belong on some wall somewhere
Where you could never see me stare

The people try to organize us
Don’t understand, just let it be
But a sequence of events occurs
And it appears we’re getting closer

Well I know it was you that called me
The other night drunk and you were so romantic
And I know you would follow me home
If only you could

Counting down
The days til you come back again
The days til I’m a mute again
The days til I can’t stare again
Arms again
But darling what are you armed against?
We used to be so peaceful
But now we can’t help kissing
Without breaking out our fangs

Happy New Year!

Since this is the first post of the New Year we would like to wish everyone a Happy New Year. We hope everyone got nice and silly and shouted their favourite songs and danced til they dripped with sweat and screamed the last 10 seconds of 2011 away. We have been in relaxation mode and we got video games for christmas so we haven’t been very productive (other then Ben who is writing new songs and has almost beat the new Zelda). We have one new song that we practiced the other night and it has really come together. We can’t wait to show it to all of you along with some other songs in the works that you guys will get to here a little more down the road. I think the biggest thing on all of our minds is getting back into the studio with Mike Keire. In less then three weeks we are going to be working on our new full length in Threshold Recording Studio, time has never gone by this slowly. This blog will light up with updates once we get into the studio with photos, teasers, stories and of course more haikus. Hopefully everyone else has had relaxing holidays and make sure to come to our first show of the new year! We’re headlining the Casbah Lounge on the 6th (Friday) with The Good Fridays and House Hippos its 19+ and only 5 dollars. Doors are at 10pm. Invite your friends! http://www.facebook.com/events/263043807089589/
